From the same Southsea Shakespeare team that brought you last summer’s ‘hit’ Black-Ey’d Susan and Victorian Music Hall…

Roseliska! or Love, Hatred and Revenge is a melodrama, written and performed in 1810 by French prisoners of war held in Portchester Castle. 212 years later, the SSA will perform a new English translation of the play on the very same spot it was first performed!

Out of a clear blue sky, our heroine, Roseliska, suddenly faces peril and disaster. This is a play about romance, adventure, danger and the ultimate triumph of right over wrong, resilience over adversity. Shot through with flashes of humour and vivid action, it is sure to delight a modern audience. In addition, the first half of the evening will comprise hilarious ‘turns’ from the golden days of Music Hall: songs, sketches and novelties.

You are invited to picnic from 6.00 p.m. on the beautiful green of the Inner Bailey. Bring your own or pre-order to collect on site from The Seahorse Coffee Bar:

The show will begin at 7.30 p.m. sharp and is expected to conclude by 10.00 p.m.

It is suitable for anyone aged 11 upwards.

Tickets are £14 (£12 for students with ID and all under 18s) and are now on sale at We only have room for 50 people at each performance, so book early to avoid disappointment. We expect to sell out!
