Steve Blackham has directed for the SSA before (Uncle Vanya, Mar 2009) and most recently he has directed Nick Downes, Pat Howe and Roger Easey in Heroes at Rosie's Wine Bar (Jul &Oct 2011)A great fan of period comedy he previously won Best Director for his Titchfield production of Shakespeare'sComedy of Errors, and is looking forward to having a ball with Goldoni's fast and furious tale of ridiculous characters and mistaken identity. 3 Acts and over 60 scenes. That's how fast and furious!!

The style requires the characters to be much larger than life, so actors have permission to be physical and outrageous, crazy and melodramatic, and to tell the audience what they are up to. It works and is very funny. (In London at the moment Goldoni is having a"Smash Hit" with A Servant of Two Masters re-worked as One man, Two Guvnors starring James Corden) Our production will be big and bold with bright costumes (1920's / 30's) and lots of physicality.
